Students from
“Three Foundations Workshop”
Justin Hu
(pianist/composer)
The three components of the workshop — non-original music analysis, discussions on practicing, and performance — were all impactful in their own ways. Giving and receiving input in these areas from other students made what often can be an isolating journey into one that is interactive, diverse, and inspiring.
Ethan Hamlin
(multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/composer/recording artist)
Michael's workshops are always wonderful, but I particularly enjoy his songwriting workshops! His breadth of knowledge and taste across genres mirrors that of his students, and creates a wide musical palette to draw on. As a composer, I relish the opportunity to share and connect with such a diverse group of fellow musicians.
Juliann Sum
(pianist/composer)
This workshop helped me evaluate and understand my own musical goals, as well as reset my practice strategies to better focus on the skills that I want to strengthen at the piano.
Ana Tudor
(multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, recording artist)
I found the Three Foundations Workshop to be really helpful and creatively uplifting. It reminded me of the beauty of different musical spheres that I don't spend as much time on, and I found it motivating to talk through my own musical goals and inspirations with people.
